6 reasons I can't wait for "Jason Bourne"

With the trailer release on the 50th Super Bowl, the Bourne saga re-ignited the buzz on the fate of Jason Bourne.

We last saw Matt Damon take on the character in 2007 on "Bourne Ultimatum" and then, in 2012, we got this kinda off, kinda reboot, staring Jeremy Renner in a wanna be Bourne character.

Paul Grengrass also returns as director. Matt Damon had previously stated that he would not reprise his role unless Grengrass was on board.

And now, with the hype on, here are 6 reasons why I'm excited about Damon's return as the lethal CIA agent:

1. Bringing the franchise back on track

As I previously stated (Sort of), I totally hated "Bourne Legacy". Jeremy Renner tried to steal Mission Impossible from Tom Cruise and it didn't work... Tried again with Bourne and he was totally out of his league.

Tony Gilroy tried his best to keep the action real, and even casted two top-of-the-line supporting actors: Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz. But even with a fully established franchise and a really big budget, the movie failed to deliver the inner struggle and the mystery Damon's Bourne previously established.

2. Reuniting proper talent

This will be the first time Academy Award winner screenwriter Matt Damon will participate on a Bourne script. And that's not to be taken lightly... Damon gave the character all of the right traits, and the sequels built up on that. Having him properly write the character is a yes.

Also returning to the franchise, is director Paul Grengrass who directed both Supremacy and Ultimatum. Even though he borrowed a lot from the first film, he was able to make them a bit darker and quite realistic. His action scenes are fast paced and, above all, credible.

3. The new cast

it's always good for a franchise to bring new faces to the mix. This time we'll get to see a very aged Tommy Lee Jones playing a top CIA agent... Sort of a Brian Cox character. Jones it's an excellent actor (needless to say) and as so, he can bring both a friendly face and a terrible threat.

Vincent Cassel is also joining the cast. Name any French-related action movie and he's in it. We can only guess his character will follow all the traditional stereotypes he's been related to, but nonetheless, he could be a formidable antagonist.

Alicia Vikander will appear in yet another movie this year. She's been quite busy giving life to a wide range of characters. It's been confirm she'll be cyber kinda character... And I'm thinking on Lizbeth Salander.

4. Is set on a modern day scenario

The thing I've always loved about the Bourne Saga is how they are not shy at displaying the latest technology in what ought to be a lineal timeline. We jump from those brick mobiles to the some new ones when in the plot it's only been a couple of years.

Now, this technological issue will be taken a step further, by bringing some modern real life issues such as terrorism, digital surveillance and hackers. Bourne is a man of his time, no matter what it would be.

5. Old fashion action

Just take a look at all the latest action blockbusters. It'd seem as directors have just forgotten how to do anything practically (With some really cool exceptions). But the Hollywood formula seems to be to fill a screen with 90 minutes of digital carnage... 90 minutes of not knowing what the hell is going on.

Greengrass surely have the perfect balance when it comes to SFX and VFX (A balance other directors like Luc Besson seem to be missing lately).

Gritty fights, cars exploding the way a car actually explodes, civilians in the way... Damn... That's action.

6. Matt Damon

I can't forget when I first saw Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting. I remember saying "Nah... just another teen wanna-be actor".

Then I learned he was actually behind the script and that many of his scenes (Specially those very dramatic) were mostly improvised.

But for me, Matt Damon is Jason Bourne. An all american, all proffesional agent on the run. He redifined the spy genre with his performance and changed the way an action character should be.

What do you think?
