Stunning concept art of Game of Thrones

If you haven't seen the first 5 seasons of Game of Thrones, these images might contain spoilers.

The breathtaking scenes of Game of Thrones have captivated us since the very first season, one of the main reasons for that awesome production results is the epic concept art.

The Karakter Design Studio won three straight Emmys for Outstanding Visual Effects for their contributions to the effects in Game of Thrones. In some cases the scenes had already been shot by the actors and they had to imagine and create a gorgeous landscape or epic city to bring to life the vision of the series. For the 5th season they came with 360° environments on 3D models so the director could find the perfect angle for the shot.

The studio has a 4 factor list around the reason of the success of the GoT VFX, in summary are:

1. Pick your battles wisely to fit the production needs so they can deliver a premium outcome.
2. Support the acting instead of draw the attention out of it with overwhelming vfx.
3. Enhace real locations and take the most of it.
4. Getting the right balance between speed and useful information to adapt to the production requirements.

You can read more about this factors in the studio's blog.

As a bonus, check out the video of the impressive storyboard artist William Simpson, who draws an outstanding crow for the Game of Thrones season 6. This is what he says of his job:

Basically, my job requires you to be a bit of a psychologist, a hypnotist and a clairvoyant, with a great ability to listen and also generate ideas out of the craziest of scenarios! - William Simpson
